What an intruder alarm installation involves
Intruder alarm installation is the fitting of a control panel, detectors and sounders that warn you and anyone nearby when a property is entered without permission. Coast Data Security surveys the building, specifies a wired or wireless Pyronix or Texecom system, and connects it to an app so you can arm, disarm and check the status from your phone.

A bungalow, a two-storey house with a home office and a warehouse with a yard all need different detector layouts, different zoning and a different approach to who arms and disarms the system and when. We start with a walk round the property, working out entry points, the rooms that matter most and how the building is used day to day, before recommending a system.
Wired systems suit new builds and renovations where cable can be run before the walls are finished, and give a very stable, tamper-resistant installation. Wireless systems from Pyronix and Texecom suit existing properties where running cable would mean disruption, and detectors can be added or moved later without lifting a floor. Keypads, key fobs and a control panel sit at the core of both, with zones set up so parts of the building can be armed independently, such as a shop floor at night while an office above stays accessible.

Living with the alarm

The most common complaint about a badly specified alarm is false activations, usually from a detector that cannot tell a person from a pet, a draught or a spider. We fit pet-friendly detectors as standard where a household has a cat or a dog, set to ignore movement below a chosen weight, and we tune detector sensitivity to the room rather than leaving every zone on a factory default.
App control means you can arm the system on the way out if you forget, check whether it is set from work, and see which zone triggered if it goes off. Monitoring is optional rather than forced on every customer: some households are happy with a loud, visible alarm and an app alert, while others want the option to add a monitoring service later, and the system is specified so that can be added without starting again.

How much does an intruder alarm cost?
An intruder alarm is quoted around the size of the building, the number of detectors, whether it is wired or wireless and how the zones are split. We put a full, itemised figure in writing after a free survey, with nothing added later.
How long does installation take?
A wireless alarm in an average house is usually finished within a day. Wired panels and larger commercial premises take longer because of the cabling involved, and the survey gives you a realistic idea of the timescale before any work starts.
Are your installers qualified and insured?
Yes. Coast Data Security only sends fully qualified technicians, and comprehensive public liability insurance is in place on every alarm we fit. We would rather assess the building properly than fit a standard kit regardless of the layout.
Which areas do you cover for intruder alarms?
We fit intruder alarms right across Northern Ireland from our base near Newry, taking in Belfast, Lisburn, Armagh, Bangor and the other towns on this page as standard territory. Outside that list, get in touch anyway; we still travel for most jobs.
I already have an alarm from another company. Can you take it over?
Often, yes, if the existing Pyronix or Texecom panel is in reasonable condition. We can service, extend or reprogram many existing systems, and where the panel is too old or unsupported we will say so and quote for a replacement.
Will the alarm go off every time my dog moves?
Not if it is specified properly. We fit pet-friendly detectors as standard for households with cats or dogs, set to ignore movement up to a chosen weight, so the alarm still catches an intruder without triggering on the pet.
Do I need a monitoring service?
No, it is optional. Many customers are happy with a loud sounder, a strobe and an app alert. If you want a monitoring service added, the system is specified so that can be arranged later without replacing the panel.
Can I arm and disarm the alarm from my phone?
Yes. Every system is set up with app control during handover, so you can arm, disarm and check the status of the alarm remotely, and see which zone triggered if it goes off while you are out.
What happens if the power goes off?
Panels are fitted with a battery back-up as standard, so the alarm keeps working through a power cut. We check battery condition at any service visit so it is ready when it is needed.
Do you fit alarms in listed buildings or older properties?
Yes. Wireless systems are often the better choice in listed buildings or older properties where running cable would mean disturbing original fabric, and we discuss this at the survey if it applies to your property.
Do you offer support after installation?
Once the panel is live, we remain on hand for battery checks, extra detectors, user changes or a fault call. The same number that booked your survey reaches us for anything that comes up afterwards.
Will the alarm work alongside CCTV or access control?
Yes. We also install CCTV, access control and gate automation, so a sensor triggering can be checked against camera footage and door activity from a single app instead of three unrelated ones.
