What access control involves
Access control is a system of readers, locks and a controller that decides who can open which door and when, replacing or supplementing keys. Coast Data Security surveys the building, specifies Paxton fobs, keypads or an intercom for each entrance, and sets up the software so access can be granted, changed or removed without cutting a new key.

We survey every entrance that needs controlling, not just the main one, and design a system around how people actually move through the building.
Paxton fobs and cards suit staff and residents who use a door every day, keypads suit shared or visitor entrances where issuing a fob to everyone is impractical, and video or audio intercoms suit main entrances where you need to see or speak to a visitor before releasing the door. Systems can run as a single standalone door, several doors networked together and managed from one place, or a mix of both across a larger site.

Managing access day to day
Add a user or remove one in minutes, not days.
The point of access control is what happens after installation, not just on the day it goes in. Losing a key means changing a lock; losing a fob means deactivating it in software and issuing a new one, with the old one useless the moment it is turned off. Staff leaving, a tenant moving out or a contractor finishing a job on site are all handled the same way, without a locksmith and without disturbing anyone else.
Networked systems give a building manager or office administrator a single view of every door, with reporting that shows who came in and out and when, which is useful for schools tracking who is on site, offices managing shared space, and apartment blocks resolving disputes about a communal door. Where a building has fire doors on an escape route, access control has to work with, not against, the means of escape, and we design entry and exit hardware accordingly.

Phone us or send the online form. We go round the building together, note every door that needs controlling, and discuss how staff, residents or pupils and visitors move through it.

Design and written quote
You get a door-by-door recommendation, whether standalone, networked or intercom-based, and a written price for the whole system, with nothing left unclear or unexplained.

Installation
Readers, locks, controllers and intercom hardware are fitted and wired, with cabling routed and concealed carefully to suit the building, its finishes and its fire doors.

Setup and user enrolment
The software is configured, doors are grouped and time-restricted where needed, and your first batch of fobs, cards or codes is issued, tested and checked on every door.

How much does access control cost?
Pricing for access control depends on how many doors need a reader, whether the system is standalone or networked, and whether an intercom is involved. A written, itemised quote follows the free survey, and there is no obligation attached to it.
How long does installation take?
A single standalone door is generally wired and working within a day. Adding more doors, networking them together or fitting an intercom extends the programme, and we set a realistic schedule once we have seen the building.
Are your installers qualified and insured?
Every technician we send out holds the right qualifications, with comprehensive public liability insurance applying to every door we fit. We look at each entrance in person rather than pricing access control from a floor plan alone.
Which areas do you cover for access control?
Access control jobs take us from our Castlewellan base out to Newry, Belfast, Lisburn, Armagh, Bangor and every other town listed on this page. If your building sits somewhere else, ring us; coverage extends well beyond that list.
Can you take over an existing Paxton system?
Often, yes, if the existing controllers and software are still supported. We can extend, reprogram or hand over management of many existing systems, and where the hardware is too old we will say so and quote for an upgrade instead.
How do I add or remove a fob once the system is in?
Whoever manages the system can add or remove a fob or card in the software in a couple of minutes, without a locksmith and without affecting any other user. We show you exactly how to do this at handover.
Will access control stop a fire door working as an escape route?
It should not, if it is designed properly. Doors on an escape route need to allow free exit even when access is restricted for entry, and we design entry and exit hardware to work with the building's means of escape.
Can I see who used which door and when?
Yes, on networked systems. Reporting shows which fob or code opened which door and at what time, which is useful for offices, schools and apartment blocks that need to account for who was on site.
Do you install intercoms for apartment blocks?
Yes. Video and audio intercoms are common at communal entrances, letting residents see and speak to a visitor before releasing the door, and they can be tied into the same system as fob access for residents' own use.
Can access control work with my CCTV or alarm?
Yes. We also install CCTV, intruder alarms and gate automation, so a door reader's activity can be cross-checked against camera footage and alarm status in one piece of software rather than several.
What happens to access control in a power cut?
Controllers are typically fitted with battery back-up, and fire-rated doors are set to fail safe so they can still be opened by hand in an emergency. We confirm the fail-safe or fail-secure setting for each door at the survey.
Do you offer support after installation?
Handover is not the end of it. Whoever manages the system can call us for extra doors, additional users, software questions or a hardware fault, on the same number used to book the survey in the first place.
