What construction site security involves

Construction site security is temporary CCTV, alarms and monitoring fitted to protect plant, materials and the compound while a build is underway, then removed when the job finishes. Coast Data Security deploys mobile CCTV towers, solar power where there is no mains supply, and temporary intruder alarms, with cameras viewable remotely from any site you are managing.

CCTV towers

A camera on site before the first delivery arrives.

Plant and tool theft, cable theft and fuel theft cost building sites money and delay, and an unsecured compound is an easy target once the working day ends. A mobile CCTV tower is a self-contained unit, camera, recorder and power supply built onto a trailer or a skid, that can be dropped at the entrance or the most exposed corner of a site and be recording within hours of arriving, without waiting for a permanent power connection or scaffolding to go up.

We deploy CCTV towers across construction sites and compounds in Newry, Armagh, Lisburn, Bangor and further afield, moving them as the site progresses from groundworks through to fit-out. Towers can run from a generator, a temporary supply or a solar panel and battery pack, so a site with no power at all on day one can still have working CCTV from the moment the fence goes up.

  • Mobile CCTV towers with night vision and remote app viewing
  • Solar-powered towers for sites with no mains supply
  • Towers relocated as the site progresses through its build phases
  • Detection zones set to cover the compound, plant and material storage
  • Footage viewable remotely by site managers and contracts staff

Alarms and monitoring

Cover for the site when the gates are locked.

A CCTV tower records what happens; a temporary intruder alarm adds a deterrent and an alert the moment someone enters the compound after hours. We fit battery or solar-powered alarm units to cover site cabins, compounds and material stores, with sounders loud enough to be heard from neighbouring properties and detectors set to cover the boundary rather than the whole open site.

Remote monitoring ties the two together. Cameras and alarms can be checked from a phone or laptop by a site manager, a contracts manager based elsewhere, or whoever is responsible for the site out of hours, so an alert overnight does not have to wait until the next morning to be seen. As the site changes, cabins move and fencing is repositioned, cameras and alarm units are relocated to match, rather than left covering an area that is now empty.

Why us

Why contractors and site managers choose us for site security.

Coast Data Security Ltd fits permanent CCTV, alarms and access control as well as temporary site security, so a mobile tower deployed for the build phase can later be replaced with a permanent system for the finished building, from the same installer. All installers are fully qualified and carry comprehensive public liability insurance, and towers and alarms are set up and tested before we leave site.

How it works

From first call to a monitored compound

  1. 1

    Enquiry and free site survey

Call the office or use the enquiry form. We visit the compound or discuss it with the contracts manager, covering the layout, the build programme, where power is available and what needs covering first.

  2. 2

    Design and written quote

You get a recommendation on CCTV towers, solar or mains power, and whether a temporary alarm is needed, with a written price for the period agreed.

  3. 3

    Deployment

Towers, alarms and any fencing-mounted cameras are delivered and sited to cover the compound entrance, plant storage and the most exposed section of the boundary.

  4. 4

    Setup and remote access

Detection zones are set, remote viewing is configured on the phones of whoever needs it, and the system is tested before we leave the site live.

  5. 5

    Relocation and removal

As the site progresses we move towers and alarms to match, and remove everything cleanly once the build is complete or the compound is no longer needed.

Tower, alarm or guarding?

Most compounds end up using a mix of these, and the table sets out what each one adds.

Construction site security questions, answered.

The things contractors and site managers ask before booking.

How much does a CCTV tower cost to hire or install?

A tower deployment is priced around how many units the compound needs, whether solar power is required and how long the site will run. We confirm the figure in writing once the free survey is done, and it does not change once work is agreed.

How quickly can a CCTV tower be on site?

Towers can typically be delivered and made live within hours of arriving, well before mains power or scaffolding is in place, so a new compound is not left uncovered on day one.

Are your installers qualified and insured?

Yes. The technicians who deploy a tower or alarm hold the right qualifications, and public liability insurance is in place for every compound we work on. We look at the site layout and build programme before recommending equipment.

Which areas do you cover for construction site security?

Towers and site alarms go out from our Castlewellan base to compounds around Newry, Armagh, Lisburn, Bangor and the other towns on this page, and further afield on request. If your site is not near one of these, get in touch anyway.

Is there power on site? We haven't got a supply yet?

That is normal on a new site. Solar-powered towers and alarms with a battery pack cover exactly this situation, running independently of a mains connection until one is available or for the whole length of the build.

Can the tower be moved as the site progresses?

Yes. Towers and alarm units are designed to be relocated as groundworks give way to structure and then fit-out, so coverage follows where plant, materials and the compound actually are at each stage.

Can I check the cameras from my phone or from another site?

Yes. Remote monitoring means footage is viewable from a phone or laptop, so a site manager, contracts manager or anyone responsible for the compound can check it without being physically on site.

Do you fit a temporary alarm as well as a camera?

We can. A temporary alarm adds an audible warning the moment someone enters the compound after hours, working alongside a CCTV tower rather than instead of one, and both can be battery or solar-powered.

How long can a site security system stay in place?

As long as the site needs it, from a short groundworks phase to the full length of a multi-year build. Towers and alarms are removed cleanly once the compound is no longer required.

Does site CCTV help with plant and cable theft?

It gives you recorded evidence and a visible deterrent, both of which reduce the risk on a compound holding plant, tools, cable and fuel, which are common targets on unsecured sites.

Can the system become permanent once the building is finished?

Yes. Because we also install permanent CCTV, alarms and access control, a temporary tower deployed during the build can be followed by a permanent system for the finished building, without changing installer.

Do you offer support while the system is on site?

Yes. For as long as the deployment runs we stay available for relocation, fault callouts and any change in coverage as the site develops, reachable on the number that arranged the original survey.
